PURPOSE:To enable good printing even onto a considerably coaese sheet, by forming a glaze layer composed of an electrical insulating material and a plurality of heating elements onto an inclined face formed between a main face and an end face of a substrate, and setting the width of the inclined face within a specific range. CONSTITUTION:In a thermal head 5, an inclining face 10 is formed between a main face 8 and an end face 9 of a substrate 7 composed of ceramic material while making an angle of 20 deg.-45 deg.. with the main face 8. The width (t') of said inclined face 10 is 0.15-0.80mm, and a glaze layer 11 is provided on the surface thereof with the thickness of 10-60mum. A heating element 13 composed of Ta2N is formed on the surface of an undercoat film 12 while furthermore an abrasion-resistant and oxidation-proof protection film 16 is formed. Wiring layers 14, 15 are made thin at a contacting portion with the heating element 13, thereby the end portion of a print sheet 2 is not caught at a border portion of the heating element 13 and the wiring layers 14, 15. Consequently, a heating portion 5b projects and contacts well with the sheet 2 and a ribbon 3, thus enabling a high quality printing even onto a coarse sheet. |
