PURPOSE:To prevent the stain on a printing image caused by malfunction, by a method wherein whether a ribbon is self-correctable is judged prior to an erasing action and the erasing action is conducted only when the ribbon is of a self-correcting type. CONSTITUTION:When an erasure key 7 is pressed, whether a display is under execution is judged. If it is not executed, whether a presently set ribbon is self-correctable is judged by ribbon information 22 which was read by a sensor and stored in a RAM. If it is a self-correcting ribbon, an erasing action is conducted so that characters are crossed out from a buffer 23; if it is not a self correctable ribbon, a buzzer is sounded. If a display is under execution, whether a cursor has been displayed is judged. If the cursor is displayed, the character indicated by the cursor is crossed out from the buffer 23 and the remaining character alignment is displayed, while if it is not displayed, the buzzer is sounded. |
