The strip or film (20) for winding the cores of cables is used to prevent a water-repellent compound with which the cable core is filled from coming out again. In order to maintain a residual pressure of the filling compound in the cable core, the film is provided with a multiplicity of openings (21, 25) which have a tongue (22, 26) which acts like a non-return valve so that the strip is permeable to the filling compound only in the direction of the cable core. In this way it is possible to delay the filling of the filling compound into the cable core until after the strip has been fitted, without any risk of it being possible for a noticeable quantity of the filling compound to emerge again. <IMAGE>
