A vehicle, for instance a fork lift, in which a hydraulic pump (13) for driving the fork (15) is driven by an engine (1) serving also for moving the vehicle, employing an automatic transmission (3, 2) for movement of the vehicle, is provided with inching control means (9, 6, 7, 8) which control a clutch (2) for separating the movement system (4, 5) and the cargo handling (fork) system (13, 14, 15). The inching control is effected by an operator through an inching pedal (9). …<??>In, for instance, the fork lift, the clutch plate is subect to a remarkable amount of wear and therefore the relationship between the degree of depression of the inching pedla (9) and engagement of the clutch (2) could change abruptly. However, compensation is effected in order to maintain constant the relationship between the degree of depression of the inching pedal and the degree of engagement of the clutch. An actual half-clutch engagement condition is set and actual clutch position measured. Detection of changes in the actual clutch position given half-clutch engagement (changes due to clutch wear) provides the basis for adjustment to effect the compensation. |
