Process for the manufacture of benzene derivatives

Date Jun. 19, 1986.A novel process for the manufacture of p-tert.butylbenzene derivatives is described. The process comprises reacting p-tert.butyl-benzyl chloride with a 2-formylpropionate of the formula <IMAGE> II wherein R represents lower-alkyl, e.g. C1-6-alkyl, especially methyl or ethyl, and, if desired, converting the resulting compound of the formula <IMAGE> I wherein R has the above significance, optionally after purification, into p-tert.butyl- alpha -methyl-hydrocinnamaldehyde by decarbalkoxylation.
