An electronic power supply that converts alternating current to a regulated DC voltage with high efficiency is accomplished by an AC-DC converter (10) having a switch (26) that connects the input AC power source directly to the DC output filter capacitor when the input voltage is substantially equal to the output voltage, and the output voltage is less than a set value.
