Monitoring and control of smelt metallurgical processes

Endothermic and exothermic smelt metallurgical processes are monitored and controlled by optical spectrometry by: determining light emissions or absorptions simultaneously in one wavelength interval; identifying the at. or molecular origin of the emissions/absorptions; recording changes in emissions/ absorptions during a process; calculating the intensity ratio of at least two emitting prods. and/or the intensities at two different wavelengths of an emitting prod.; and controlling the process in accordance with changes in the ratios.
