<p>A hydropneumatic actuator comprises a first piston (22) e.g. actuated by pneumatic pressure, in chamber (28) fixed to a second piston (24) e.g. actuable by hydraulic pressure in chamber (80), and an adjustable connection to an output rod (12) the adjustment being locked when either piston is subjected to fluid pressure. As shown, the adjustable connection is a variable volume chamber (54) behind a piston (56) connected to the output rod (12), and containing hydraulic fluid controlled by a valve (66). Chamber (28) can be connected with a source of pneumatic pressure (30) either by a solenoid valve (36) or by a valve (34) actuated by hydraulic pressure fed to the chamber (80) via an inlet (82).</p> |
