This is a machine (1) for machining workpieces (9) which has a driven tool (6) rotating about its longitudinal axis (8). There is a suction device (17) for the removed chips. It has a chip-collecting space (19) which is connected to a suction pump (P). The space (19) is surrounded by a boundary wall (18) whose margin (21) pointing towards the workpiece (9) defines a passage opening (20) for the tool (6) and at the same time can be put on the workpiece surface (14) in a displaceable manner in the axial direction.
