A blood oxygenator apparatus for use in an extracorporeal blood circulation system, comprises a pump 27 and an oxygenator, the oxygenator comprising a rigid reservoir 1 for the venous blood, an oxygenation chamber 2 and a heat exchanger 3 formed as a single unit. The inlet for the blood flow into the oxygenation chamber 2 is directly connected to the outlet for the blood from the heat exchanger 3. All the blood collected in the blood reservoir 1 passes through the pump 27 before it enters the heat exchanger 3.
