The machine according to the invention comprises a chain conveyor 1 including cavities 9 intended to receive the products to be tied up, each cavity consisting of at least two adjacent parts 9a, 9b which together form a slot 10 parallel to the direction F of transport of the conveyor 1, and a knotting device 14 intended to place a string 21 around the products which are contained in the cavities 9 at the level of the slot 10 in the latter. It may also comprise a second conveyor 22 including cavities 27 which are perpendicular to the cavities 9, the cavities 27 consisting, in their turn, of adjacent parts forming a slot 28 which is parallel to the slots 10, a transfer device 41 for removing the tied-up products on the conveyor 1 and depositing them into the cavities 27, and a knotting device 32 or 33 for tying up the products contained in the cavities 27 at the level of the slots 28. <IMAGE>
