Process for the production of an aluminium base for a lithographic printing plate

The invention relates to a process for the production of an aluminium base (support, carrier, substrate) for a lithographic printing plate, in which a surface of an aluminium plate, in particular an aluminium plate containing manganese, is etched with an alkaline etching solution in such a way that from 0.01 to 5.0 g/m<2> of aluminium are removed, and the aluminium plate is subsequently subjected to electrolytic graining (granulation, roughening) in an acidic electrolyte solution. The aluminium base has uniform granulation and gives a lithographic printing plate having excellent print durability and spot insensitivity.
