In an air heater having a fan which is accommodated in a prismatic housing, and an electric heating element, and also incoming-air and outgoing-air openings for the fan air which are arranged in the housing walls, to obtain a uniform and equal-pressure outgoing-air flow the incoming air can be led axially to the fan wheel (7) via housing openings (5) in a housing wall parallel to the plane of the fan wheel and the outgoing air can be passed via openings (17) in the side walls, extending all the way round transversely to the housing wall, of the housing (1) and air-guide plates (18) are constructed in the corner regions in the housing (1). <IMAGE>
