The invention relates to a composite steel workpiece and a method of manufacturing same, in which a supporting sleeve is provided with at least one clearance, which clearance is provided with a wear-resistant and/or corrosion-resistant lining, which is bonded to the supporting sleeve to form a metal composite. The invention provides that, in particular for forming a twin-screw or multiple- screw barrel for plastics processing, the supporting sleeve, provided with at least one core at the point(s) of the desired clearance(s), is subjected together with the core(s) to a hot forming process at an appropriate temperature, in particular a cross-sectional reduction, the core(s) is (are) given a non-circular cross-sectional shape and the clearance(s) is (are) formed in the core(s). |
