Foil (5) or similar material is punched using a cutting die (1) having at least one cutting edge (4) and a punching die (6) which is partially introduced into the cutting die by a rectilinear movement between them, the foil being cut in the shape of the cutting edge or edges of the cutting die. The part of the punching die cooperating with the cutting die consists of permanently deformable material.
