<p>Pipe lines are, e.g. for district heating, using waste heat from generating stations. On either side of the circumferential pipe weld, are two spaced discs (2). A ceramic mixture (3,5) is then applied to lag the pipes. After welding main pipe sections (1) together, the welded section is then kept at a raised temp. The discs are then welded. Pipe sections are then lagged with a mixture of fly-ash and cement. The section between the discs is then covered with muff (4) which is then lagged with a similar mixture. Pipe lengths are thus pre-stressed over their entire length.</p> |
