A disc transferring mechanism moves alongside the bank of upright discs and transfers a disc held at a predetermined position on the disc storage section to the disc playback section. A wire whose ends are attached to the disc transfer mechanism prevents the discs held in the disc storage tray from falling out except for the disc being transferred. As the disc transfer mechanism moves along the disc storage tray the disc fall out prevents mechanism is rocked against a bias so that the bias is overcome by the disc to be played. This disc rolls into a port in the disc transfer mechanism. The wire is controlled by a guide as the disc transfer carriage moves.
