<p>Three-component three-dimensional seismic data is acquired by locating a plurality of receivers 14 off the seismic shot line 16 of a seismic source 12. The angle phi between the seismic shot line 16 and a line 20 extending between the seismic source 12 and each receiver 19 is used to normalize the signals generated by the two shear wave detectors 30, 32 in each receiver by mathematically rotating the orientation of the receiver 18 and the orientation of the seismic source 12 to produce horizontal shear wave signals 26, 32 and vertical shear wave signals 22, 30 generally equivalent to those that would have been produced if each receiver 18 and seismic source 12 were aligned along a seismic shot line 20.</p> |
