The invention relates to a bite indicator for anglers, consisting of a support fork for a fishing rod with fishing line, a release arrangement and a switching and indicating unit connected thereto. According to the invention, the release arrangement contains a release pin (17) which can be displaced in a guide in the direction of the fishing line which can be introduced into a gap (21) and lies there until a bite. The release pin (17) or at least a part thereof consists of a permanent magnet (18). A metal and magnetically responsive part is mounted rigidly in the region of the permanent magnet in such a manner that the release pin (17) is pressed in the direction of the gap (21) or the fishing line inserted there. When there is a bite, the fishing line is tensioned, the release pin (17) is pressed further into the gap (21) and an electric contact is thus closed, which activates the indicating unit. Such a construction is simple, functional and economical and allows a desirably sensitive release with low resistance for the fishing line when there is a bite. <IMAGE>
