The reader uses a single scanner unit (1) having twodimensional array of photoelectric elements in an image sensor (6), and the switching gates (21,22) for the barcode and alphanumerical character formats. To understand alphanumeric formats, the character processing circuit (10), the feature extraction circuit (11) and the recognizing circuit (12) response to signals from the scanner (1). To make out barcode formats, the barcode reading parts (13-20) response to the output signals from the scanner unit (1). The gate circuits (21,23) are arranged to select output signals according to whether the dimension measured by both parts is appropriate. |
