PURPOSE: To obtain a high writing rate and reading rate by forming a multilayered system including a magnetic layer and a specified reflection layer and forming many layers having different isomagnetic characteristics such that the max. thickness of a magnetic layer is in inverse proportion to its absorption coefft. CONSTITUTION: This recording medium has a multilayered structure including a magnetic layer 2 of a magnetic recording material, and the magnetic layer 2 is formed, for example, by sputtering or vapor deposition on the surface of a transparent substrate 10. A reflection layer 6 having <=1 refractive index n is formed under the magnetic layer 2 and the thickness of the layer 6 is made at least twice as that of the magnetic layer 2. The magnetic layer has high coercive force as at least 1KG, and especially >=2KG, and its Kerr rotation angle is generally at least 0.2 deg. and especially >=0.4 deg.. The whole thickness of the multilayered system is at least 3/K, wherein K is the absorption coefft. Therefore, the obtd. medium has a large Kerr rotation angle and high coercive force and realizes high data density, fast writing rate and fast reading rate. |
