A waterproof optical fibre cable (1) for use in a communication system comprises: an elongate spacer member (2) having at least one longitudinally extending groove (4) formed in the outer surface; optical fibre means (5) loosely housed in the groove; a dampproof jelly material provided in the groove; and means (9) for covering the spacer member, characterised in that the dampproof jelly material fills the groove, and coats the peripheral surface of the spacer member at predetermined intervals along the longitudinal direction of the spacer member so as to form a plurality of jelly-filled portions (6) alternating with a plurality of unfilled portions (8).
