Disclosed herein is a device for controlling a vehicle engine (E) by controlling a throttle valve (4) by the drive-by-wire method. Taking a hint from the fact that an acceleration is proportional with an excess torque, a target torque (TT) is determined in accordance with a predetermined functional equation by using as input information a target acceleration (TA) determined based on the degree of operation of a man-controlled member (14a), the current running acceleration (CRA) and the current output torque (COT). A target throttle opening rate is set further from the target torque (TT). The throttle valve (4) is then controlled to achieve the target throttle opening rate to control the acceleration under prediction, whereby a high-accuracy engine control is materialized and the drivability is improved. |
