A substantive UV-absorbing compsn. comprises one or more UVabsorbing agents (I) combined with a fatty acid amine (II). The compsn. mol. ratio of (II) to (I) is pref. 0.25-2:1. (I) are pref. (a) UV-A absorbers, including sulisobenzone and thioctic acid; and (b) UV-B absorbers, including 2-phenylbenzimidazole-5-sulphonic acid, sulicyclic acid, cinnamic acid and ferrulic acid. (II) is pref. lauroamidopropyl dimethylamine, stearamidoethly ethanolamine, cocoyl imidazoline or alkyldimethylamine. The compsn. is used in sunscreen- or sunblock-formulation.
