The subject of the invention is methods and devices for accurately crimping a terminal onto one end of a conducting wire. A device according to the invention includes a crimping press 1 equipped with a fixed plate 2 and with a movable plate 3 between which plates are placed one end of a wire 5 and a terminal 6 which it is desired to crimp onto this wire. The movable plate is moved by a system of two identical connection rods 8, 12 which are connected by an articulation 11. The first connecting rod 8 is extended beyond this articulation by a lever 9 having the same length as the two connecting rods, the free end 19 of which is articulated to the rod 18a of a cylinder actuator 18 which moves along a fixed axis yy1 passing through the bearing point 13 of the second connecting rod 12 so that a force F2 is exerted on the movable plate, this force being constantly perpendicular to this plate.
