The gasification method according to the invention consists in creating a partial vacuum in the cylinder and in vaporising, in the latter, a sufficient quantity of liquefied gas for it no longer to contain air. As to the installation, it comprises a gasification bell 7 including an internal cavity the inlet of which points downwards and is provided with a seal 10, means 8 for moving the bell vertically between a high position in which it is vertically above the cylinder 3 and a low position in which the seal 10 is pressed against the latter, about its filling orifice, a first pipe 11 connecting the cavity of the bell to a vacuum pump 13, a second pipe 14 connecting the said cavity to a volume of liquefied gas 16, and valves 12, 15 mounted in the first and second pipes. The method and the installation according to the invention make it possible to gasify bottles of gas in complete safety while preventing the formation of explosive air-gas mixtures. <IMAGE>
