ACID INHIBITING SYSTEM FOR EVA HOT MELT COMPOSITIONS AND EVA HOT MELT COMPOSITIONS CONTAINING THEM

An acid inhibiting system for ethylene vinyl acetate copolymers (EVA copolymers) and hot melts based upon them. The stabilizing system comprises zinc oxide in an amount of from about 1 to about 20 parts per 100 parts of EVA copolymer. The system preferably contains a fatty acid or a fatty acid amide in an amount of from about 0 to about 2 parts per 100 parts of EVA copolymer in addition to the zinc oxide. The system inhibits the generation of acetic acid which occurs upon the decomposition of the EVA copolymer at elevated temperatures. 1449P
