<p>An auger shredder and feeder system includes a primary housing (10) for receiving material to be ground and shredded. A primarily auger (60) is rotatably mounted within a grinding chamber (14) formed in the housing. An extrusion tube (30) receives material ground and shredded within the grinding chamber. A secondary housing (44) having a generally tubular side wall communicates with the extrusion tube (30). A secondary auger (72) is rotatably mounted within the secondary housing (44). Material deposited in the primary housing is crushed and shredded, then pumped by the primary auger (60) through the extrusion tube (30) where it forms a plug of material. As the plug progresses into the secondary housing (44), it is further shredded and compressed by the secondary auger (72).</p> |
