An axial locking device has two separable members ( 1, 2 ) which can be locked together and unlocked by relative movement of the two members in one axial sense. Locking and unlocking are effected by a cam slider (8) which can rotate and move axially. The cam slider (8) has flexible teeth (43) which can engage reaction teeth (44), and wave-form teeth (42), which can engage complementary teeth (41). on pushing the member (2) to the left, a toothed ring (3) causes the teeth (43) to apply rotary biassing to the cam slider (8) which causes the teeth (41, 42) to jump by one pitch, giving a click. The click indicates that the device is locked.
