Macrolide antibiotics and their preparation

Compounds are described of formula (II) <IMAGE> (II) and salts thereof, wherein R1 reprsents a methyl, ethyl or isopropyl group; R2 represents a hydrogen atom or a group OR5 (where OR5 is a hydroxy group or a substituted hydroxyl group having up to 25 carbon atoms) and R3 represents a hydrogen atom, or R2 and R3 together with the carbon atom to which they are attached represent a >C=0 group; and OR4 represnts a group OR5 as defined above; with the proviso that when R2 represents a hydroxy group OR4 represents a substituted hydroxy group other than a methoxy group. These compounds may be used for controlling insect, acarine, nematide or other pests.
