The device includes a cylindrical housing (17) locked by a pin (46) located in an immobile section (14) of the hinge, and enclosing a notched mechanism with a rotor (19) which pivots with the door. The rotor has a projecting bearing element (20) fitting over the hinge axle (15) and within a transversal slot (24) made in a moving section (13a) of the hinge. The rotor drives, in a tangential manner, balls (35) which are pushed radially by spring elements against notches set into an inner surface of the housing.
