(A) Prodn. of an inclastic, porous material for making inclastic printing types comprises: (a) kneading a mixt. of (i) easily soluble material, (ii) granular glass of lower melting pt. than material (i), (iii) binder and (iv) a solvent which dissolves the binder but not material (i); (b) drying and pulverising to obtain a mouldable powder; (c) press-moulding the powder; (d) sintering at above the melting pt. of the glass (ii) but below the temp. at which material (i) reacts with the glass; and (e) removing material (i) with a solvent. (B) A finely porous and inclastic printing type, suitable for impregnation with printing ink, comprises a sintered body of glass particles made by process (A), the fine pores being formed by dissolution of easily soluble material (i) from the sintered body. USE/ADVANTAGE - The printing type is used as a seal, a roller printing head, stamp or pen. It produces a clear undistorted printed image, can be fed continuously with ink by capillary action, has long term stable printing characteristics and is oxidn. resistant.
