A process to manufacture a rope with a thimble at each end utilises formers at each end of the ropewalk; strands from a reel are laid parallel and around the end formers; the requisite number of strands are then bound together by at least one outer braid; then the end formers are enclosed in a housing which is filled with plastic. The appts. is also claimed. At the centre is an electrical cable (9) which is laid at the same time as the multi-strand filament of synthetic, or a yarn of twisted or braided synthetic, to bring the outer diameter (D) upto 30mm. The end of the strand is twisted in, and the rope is compressed by means of 1 mm polyamide braid on the outside, and this may be multi-layered. The strands are laid in formers (4) at the fixed points at the end of the ropewalk, to produce a length of 45 meters. The strands are sprayed with plastic at the time of braiding. Then the thimble (11) is constructed by wrapping metal foil (14) around the strands near the former (4). The groove in the former, in which the rope lies, is polished and smeared with tetrafluoroethylene. The free space inside the thimble is filled with plastic (15). The ends of the electrical cable (9) are drawn out, or fastened to the former (4). USE - As a fastening rope for the security of logs during transport over rough terrain, with adequate strength relative to the diameter, and having hauser ends, with electrical connections.
