The invention relates to a permanent-magnet linear-drive motor. The motor comprises a straight-line fixed module (10) formed by several aligned permanent magnets (12), separated by gaps of fixed length, and arranged in such a way that their north and south poles are alternated, a movable module (18) consisting of a pair of electromagnets (20,22) in a U, the parallel branches (26,27) of which are arranged on either side of the fixed module, and are linked by a rigid mechanical link (30) with a length such that, when one of the electromagnets is in the region of a gap, the other is opposite a permanent magnet, a device (34) for detecting the passage of one of the electromagnets in front of the permanent magnets, and a means of supplying power to the electromagnets which is controlled by the said detection device. <IMAGE>
