A webbing for a safety belt comprising warps and wefts is characterized in that the wefts exhibit an elongation of at least 30% at breakage. Accordingly, the wefts stretch a large amount and with comparative ease when the warps are tensioned or pulled, and therefore the wefts almost never break. Consequently, the warps also do not break. The end result is a webbing of increased strength.
