<p>A method of producing bleached cellulase is claimed in which (a) dissociated lignocellulosic material is extd. with water to remove the vanillin, syringaldehyde, furfuraldehyde, protein, acetic acid, glucoronic acid and xylose monomers and oligomers; (b) the water-insoluble material is extd. with i-PrOH, EtOH or MeOH to remove the vegetable oil and lignin, followed by a mild, less than 2% soln. of NaOH, LiOH or KOH to dissolve and extract the high deg. of polymerisation (DP) xylose oligomers and lignin / furfuraldehyde copolymers usually referred to as pseudolignin, or the water-insoluble material is extd. directly with the mild NaOH, LiOH or KOH soln.; (c) the water, alcohol and/or caustic extd. dissociated lignocellulosic material is bleached with a less than 2% soln. of bleach, pref. a buffered hypochlorite bleach; and (d) the bleach is solvent exchanged with water to terminate the bleaching action. Alternatively, the bleach is solvent exchanged with alcohol to terminate bleaching and to inhibit H-bonding during drying, and the cellulose is dried to recover the alcohol by evapn. Alternatively again, bleach is solvent exchanged with water to terminate bleaching and then with acetic acid to inhibit H-bonding and colour reversion during drying, and the cellulose is dried to recover acetic acid by evapn.</p> |
