The present invention relates to a triac with a wedge-shaped trigger and with lateral insulation by P-type doped well, responsive in the four quadrants, comprising: on either side of an N-type substrate (11) first (12) and second (13) P-type layers; a first N-type region (14) in the first P-type region (12) and a second N-type region (15) in the second P-type region (13); and a trigger zone formed on a part of the first P-type region in which an N-region (16) has been locally diffused, under which are, successively, the said first P-type layer (12), the N-type substrate (11), the said second P-type layer (13) and an extension (17) of the second N-type region. This triac comprises means for interrupting the electrical continuity of the second P-type layer in the region of the contour of the second N-type layer adjacent to the well in the trigger region. <IMAGE>
