In the system of the present invention, the fruit is separated from the branches by a compression and decompression of these branches. Owing to the fact that the branches are flexible, the compression subjects them to a uniform and homogeneous contraction. The decompression allows the branches to resume their initial position and the fruit is released by inertia. The compression is obtained by means of powerful flapping exerted on the consecutive sections of the peripheral branches with the aid of non-rigid surfaces (3) mounted on rigid elements (1) acting as a framework for them. The fixed elements are actuated manually with the aid of springs (2) and of cables (5), or mechanically with the aid of suitable means. This system does not bring about any serious damage to the trees. <IMAGE>
