<p>The antenna includes a radiating element (13) mounted on dielectric material (15) which fills a cavity (14) in a protective thermal tile (11). The tile is in other respects identical to those protecting the surface of the vehicle from high temperatures, for example, during re-entry. The strut (12) by which the tile is fixed to the outer skin of the vehicle also carries a conductor (25) which supplies power to the radiant element. Transfer of heat to the mass of the space vehicle via this conductor is avoided by a capacitive coupling through a gap (22) covered by dielectric material to the internal conductor (21) in the skin of the vehicle.</p> |
