A system for providing user friendly access from remote user terminals to a plurality of service computers includes one or more network host computers, each of which includes a first communicator for communicating with user terminals according to a first user terminal protocol, a second communicator for communicating with a plurality of service computer systems according to a plurality of service communication protocols, a converter for converting data received from a user terminal according to the first protocol into one of the service computer communication protocols, storage for storing application protocols consisting of instructions to enable the user terminals to prompt a user to input data required by a particular service supported by one of the service computers, responsive to a data request from one of the service computers, and instructions to enable the terminal effectively to request further data from the user responsive to data provided in response to prior requests and a downloader for downloading the stored application programs to the user terminals; and one or more user terminals, each including an input consisting of a limited format keypad, and a display to indicate to a user possible responses to prompts supported by the keypad at a given time, a receiver and storage receiving and storing the application programs downloaded by the network host computer, and a prompter responsive to the stored application programs to prompt the user to supply all required input from the user responsive to the user's selection of a desired service.
