The compensating cylinder (1) is biased by a pressure line (l) from a hydraulically acting spring accumulator so that as the mass (m) drops the potential energy which becomes free is stored as spring energy and as the mass (m) rises the required potential energy is recovered from the stored spring energy according to the formula for the spring constant (c2). ADVANTAGE - The spring accumulator can be mounted irrespective of location and an ideal spring path can be achieved.
