The invention concerns a straight-knitting machine with at least one needle board, mobile needles disposed in the needle board and immobile comb plates. In such a machine, the invention proposes simple design, production and control means which ensure that stitches are held in place, this being done by means of mobile retainer plates (17) in addition to the immobile comb plates (7, 8).
