The inking mechanism has an application roller inking a cylinder and, in turn, inked either directly or by a further roller. The application roller (2) has a compressible support layer (3). The application roller is pref. in direct contact with the cylinder (1), and the layer can be formed by a thin-wall tube, detachable from the application roller core. Alternatively it can be vulcanised or sprayed onto the core.
