The load retainer for use on a vehicle designed to carry large sheets of glass, consists of a series of rigid vertical supports (10) along the sides of the vehicle, fixed to the vehicle bodywork in line with the upper portions of the sheets, and inflatable flexible elements (3) which are attached to the supports and can be inflated with compressed air to fill the spaces between the supports and the glass. Each of the flexible elements is in the form of a hollow cushion with elastic lines (18) on the inside joining its inner surfaces to return them to their initial positions once the pressure inside is released. Each cushion is equipped with a connector (4) for attachment to a compressed air line (15).
