Pyrimidine compounds

A pyrimidinone compound of formula (IIIA) or (VA): <IMAGE> (IIIA) wherein R13 is hydrogen, halogen or cyano and R14 is halo or haloalkyl with the proviso that (a) when R13 is cyano, R14 is other than chlorine; (b) R13 and R14 are not both halo; (c) when R13 is halo R14 is other than monofluoromethyl; and (d) when R13 is hydrogen R14 is not halo or a halomethyl group; <IMAGE> (VA) wherein R10 is hydrogen or C1-4alkyl; R15 is cyano and R16 is R6 is defined in relation to formula (V) or R15 is hydrogen or halogen other than fluorine and R16 is pentafluoroethyl or difluoromethyl. These compounds are useful as intermediates in the preparation of insecticidal compounds.
