PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide lyophilized viral formulations useful for the stabilization and storage of viruses and methods for preparing the formulations.SOLUTION: The lyophilized viral formulation described herein includes a virus (e.g., a purified virus) and a non-viral composition including an excipient. The formulation can be used, for example, to retain viral infectivity or immunogenicity during periods of storage. Provided herein is a lyophilized viral formulation useful for the stabilization and storage of viruses and a method of preparing the formulation. The formulations can be used for storage of viruses, for example, to retain the infectivity or immunogenicity of viruses during periods of storage.
