<p>It is of the type comprising a graphite sealing ring made from a winding (2) of a graphite strip (1) and it is characterised in that it consists in depositing at least one braid (3) of rows (3a, 4) on at least one of the peripheries (6, 7) of the said graphite-strip winding so as to constitute an intermediate ring which is then compressed to a predetermined value.
