PRESS FOR COMPACTING POWDERY MATERIAL

The known presses for compressing a powdery material, in particular for compressing powdery explosives in the manufacture of detonators for the ignition of explosive charges, take the form of expensive, heavy and complicated devices in which single pressing with weights is employed and therefore large masses need to be moved. To reduce this expenditure and to achieve an accurate, rapid-working light-weight press, the latter is designed with a guide system consisting of two mutually parallel guide columns which are rigidly interconnected at their upper and lower ends by a cross-member in each case and on which a tool holder which bears the hydraulically actuable pressing member is mounted displaceably, the lower cross-member having a pressure piece serving as abutment and the upper cross-member having a cylinder subjected to auxiliary force for limiting the pressing force.
