The soles have a bottom sole, an upper sole and an inner sole connecting the bottom sole to the upper sole. In a first process step the bottom sole and the upper sole are moulded using two side mould parts (11), a shell-type, i.e. recessed cavity, bottom die (1), a last (17) carrying a shoe upper which is placed on the side mould parts in the closed position, and an insertable contour plate (2, 6, 8) dividing the space between the side mould parts into two mould cavities (15, 16), respectively for the bottom and upper soles. After removal of the contour plate (2, 6, 8) in a second process step the inner sole (21) is moulded between the bottom sole and the upper sole. The contour plate is made by machining a block on one side to define the upper contour of the bottom sole, and moulding a layer of material (19), which is the same as that of the bottom sole, on the other side to define the lower contour of the upper sole. <IMAGE>
