A method of obtaining synthesis gas from natural gas, possibly from light hydrocarbons and steam in an installation comprising primary hydrocarbons conversion with steam, that is catalytic tubular reforming, a system of heaters for heating raw materials supplied for tubular reforming, secondary methane conversion with the use of air, with which the carbon oxide and hydrogen to nitrogen ratio is adjusted to a level of about 3 in gas, carbon dioxide conversion with steam and a system, where carbon oxide and dioxide are removed from the gas, characterized in that in the stream of gas supplied to the primary hydrocarbons conversion the ratio of steam to carbon included in hydrocarbons is lowered and for the purpose of maintaining the desired constant amount of the synthesis gas after secondary methane conversion, the amount of hydrocarbons supplied to primary hydrocarbons conversion is increased and regulated, and at the same time the intensity of heating the primary hydrocarbons conversion with burnt hydrocarbons is increased and regulated in a manner approximately reversely proportionate to the flow of hydrocarbons to the primary conversion, and the direct heating of the secondary methane conversion with the use of hydrocarbons that did not react in the primary hydrocarbons conversion and with oxygen supplied with constant amount of air is changed in an approximately proportionate manner.
